COVER SUPERVISOR | FUTURE TEACHER PROGRAMME

Barnet, North London

Start Date: January 2026 School Status: Ofsted 'Outstanding' Salary: £90 - £110 per day (term time only) Contract: Full-Time / Long-Term

IS THIS YOU?

  • Are you a recent graduate thinking about a career in education?

  • Do you have experience leading groups of young people (e.g., sports coaching, drama workshops, summer camps)?

  • Are you confident, resilient, and ready to command a room?

Protocol Education is partnering with a prestigious Secondary School in Barnet to recruit proactive Cover Supervisors for a January 2026 start. This is a unique opportunity to secure a long-term role in an environment designed to train the teachers of tomorrow.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is not "just" a cover role. This 'Outstanding' school uses the Cover Supervisor position as a training ground for future teaching talent.

What you will be doing:

  1. Leading the Class: You will manage the classroom in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain on task and behaved.

  2. Delivering Content: You will deliver pre-planned lessons across the curriculum—one hour you could be overseeing a Science experiment, the next a History debate.

  3. Building Relationships: You will build rapport with students, helping to foster a positive learning environment.

  4. Developing Skills: You will learn behaviour management techniques, safeguarding protocols, and pedagogical skills from senior staff.

THE LOCATION

Why Barnet? Based in North London, this school offers the best of both worlds.

  • Access: Easily reachable via the Northern Line and National Rail, making it a simple commute from Central or North London.

  • Environment: Barnet is known for its green spaces and community feel, and this school reflects that—it is safe, welcoming, and community-focused.

  • Facilities: The school boasts modern classrooms and a dedicated staff hub for planning and relaxation.

YOUR TOOLKIT

To be considered for this competitive January 2026 cohort, you need:

  • Degree: A university degree (2:2 or above) in any subject.

  • Resilience: The ability to stay calm under pressure and manage low-level disruption effectively.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults is highly desirable.

  • Availability: Committed to a full-time role (Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm).

THE PROTOCOL ADVANTAGE

  • Training: We provide free Behaviour Management workshops to ensure you feel ready before you step into the classroom.

  • Pay: We offer competitive daily rates paid weekly via PAYE (no hidden umbrella fees).

  • Pathway: Many of our Cover Supervisors go on to secure funded teacher training spots with the school after one year.
